Champadevi Hiking Day Tour is organized by Himalayan Hospitality Journey which is also the third highest hill in Kathmandu. We hike to Champa Devi Hill and get to the top of one of the highest hills in Kathmandu valley lying at an elevation of 2,278 meters, Champa Devi is the valley’s third-highest hill. It is named after Champa Devi, the patron goddess of the hill who protects the forest and the surrounding area. A shrine dedicated to the goddess lies at the summit. There is also a Buddhist monastery en route. Located towards the south of the capital, one can enjoy delightful views of Kathmandu valley by following the Champadevi Hiking Trail. In autumn and winter, the summit offers magnificent views of the Himalayan peaks. Gauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, etc., are some of the peaks that can be viewed from the top on a clear day.
We start our journey from central Kathmandu with a drive towards the southwestern end of the city. After driving for about an hour, we approach Chovar. We take the rough track leading to Hattiban Resort. Once we reach the resort’s gate, we begin our hike to Champa Devi. The Champadevi Hiking Trail inches upwards to a dense pine forest decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags. The path is well marked with well-placed stone steps going all the way to the top. For experienced hikers, this is an easy walk. But for those who have little experience, the climb may prove a little strenuous.
Take a breather once in a while and soak in the views of the verdant hills and the valley as you follow the Champadevi Hiking Trail and make your way up to the summit. After hiking for about three hours, we reach the top. Enjoy views of the mesmerizing Taudaha Lake, surrounding rural settlements, and the whole of Kathmandu valley. We take pictures and enjoy our picnic lunch. After soaking in the views, we take the same path down to the resort and drive back to our hotel in Kathmandu.
