Scientific researchers have proved that the hunt for wild honey is one of the oldest activities continued by humans for survival, and according to the study of rocks in various parts, it has been found that honey has been hunted in Nepal since 1300 BC.
Many people in some villages, especially in western Nepal, depend on honey for their livelihood. They harvest honey from the largest species of bee in the world, called Apis, which is labor-intensive. These bees live on the high cliffs of the foothills and the honey hunters risk their lives to harvest the honey to survive.
How is Honey Hunted?
The honey hunters build rope ladders and baskets to access the combs after the bees are washed away with smoke by lighting a fire under the hives. Honey harvest usually takes place twice a year, when hunters come together and migrate into the Himalayas to take on this huge task with mortal danger.
To harvest one colony, the honey hunters take two to three hours, depending on the location of the hive and the size. The harvesting ritual, which varies slightly from community to community, begins with a prayer and sacrifice of flowers, fruit, and rice. Then a fire is lit at the base of the cliff to smoke the bees from their honeycombs.
From above, a honey hunter descends the cliff that is attached to a ladder with ropes. While his friends fasten the rope and ladder from the top and lift the spring tools up, the honey hunter fights territorial bees while cutting pieces of honey from the comb.

Bee hunting Tour - Detail Itinerary

Arrival Day
Guest will be picked up from the Airport and transfer to the hotel and welcome in the dinner.

Sightseeing day
Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour is exciting city tour where tourist get chance to explore the Kathamndu.

Drive to Besisahar
We will drive along the Prithivi Highway till Dumre and take a rough road through the Marshyangdi River as we pass through the low-lying villages and rice fields for around 6 hours until we reach Besi Sahar.

Trek to Ghalegaun
After breakfast, we will head towards Ghalegaun. You can drive to Ghale Gaun but it is not as exciting as trekking up the hill.
We will walk past settlements of various communities through the villages of Sirung village, Thulo village, etc. Throughout the trail, you get a mesmerizing view of Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. Upon reaching the village you will have a grand welcome ceremony from the local villagers

Trek to Bhujung
We will explore Ghale Gaun in the morning and soon after the exploration we start our walk towards the largest Gurung settlement in Annapurna Conservation Area, Bhujung. We will halt at Ghanapokhara offering a mesmerizing view of the Annapurna and Manaslu Ranges.
We then have a couple of hours’ walk and reach Bhujung. After a brief rest at your accommodation, we will head towards the important landmarks in the village like the Bhujung Museum and Hydro Power Sites. After exploring, we return to our homestay.

Trek to ThakuBhir(Hunting site)
After breakfast, we continue our trek towards ThakuBhir leaving Bhujung. For the rest of the day, we will explore the sites and get to know the locals and their culture.

Observe Honey Hunting Ceremony
We enjoy the honey hunting ceremony, and also taste the freshly harvested honey, and observe the traditional methods of harvesting honey from the high cliffs.
