Overview of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a moderately difficult walk. The hike links the magnificent Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda, a high alpine lake. To begin the trek, one must travel to Dhunche or Syaprubeshi. The journey takes a day and begins in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. The trip starts in Syabrubensi and concludes in Kathmandu’s Sundarijal, making a loop around the Laurebina La pass.

Highlights of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

  • Trek to the highest Lauribina Pass and visit the Gosaikunda Holy Lake.
  • Take in the breathtaking views of Naya Kanga, Ponggen Dopku, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Leonpo Gang, Kangchenpo, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Yala Peak.
  • Discover the Tamang ethnic culture and way of life.
  • Look for opportunities to see the Langtang National Park and the Red Pandas in the wild.

Despite the fact that Langtang is a less established hiking location, it provides an excellent chance for explorers and trekkers to view Bill Tillman’s footprints. In 1949, Bill Tillman rediscovered the Himalayan passes, scenic valleys, and diverse ethnic culture. Furthermore, the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek offers spectacular vistas of Himalayan peaks while being off the usual route. In addition, this adventure brings you to some of the most distant and pristine locations on the planet. As a result, the hike offers a one-of-a-kind experience.

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek’s most enticing section

The hiking path contains lovely rhododendron blooms and fantastic views, and there is a Tamang settlement in the middle. After several days of challenging but enjoyable hiking through traditional ethnic towns and forests, we will arrive at Gosaikunda Lake. Thousands of pilgrims visit Gosaikunda every year on the day of Janai Purnima since it is a major Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage destination. In addition, during the full moon celebrations in August, people gathered here to worship and bathe.

Gosaikunda – The Lake of Faith

The genesis of Gosaikunda Lake is shrouded in legend. In the eastern part of the lake, a black elongated form stone like a sleeping Shiva displays the people’s beliefs. According to legend, Shiva created this high-altitude lake by piercing a glacier with his trident in collect water to quench his thirst. Because he consumed the poison accumulated by the ocean’s churning. Shiva’s neck becomes blue as a result of swallowing poison. A white rock beneath the lake is also claimed to be the relic of an old Shiva temple. People also say that the water from this lake flows underground through a subterranean canal and then emerges in Patan’s Kumbeshwar pool.

Arriving at the trailhead

The walk to Gosaikunda Lake begins at Syabrubensi. The trailhead for the Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trek is the village of Syabrubensi, which is located on the banks of the Langtang River. In the mornings, a local bus service departs from Balaju Bus Park in Kathmandu on a regular basis. Aside from renting, the best alternative for the trip is to take a 4WD jeep or a Scorpio Car. It will save you time and allow you to enjoy the vacation on your own terms. It will be a picturesque ride of 6-7 hours along the exciting Pasang Lhamu Highway. The motorway connects Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, with Timure, Tibet.

When is the best time to visit Gosainkunda?

The ideal months to visit are September through mid-December, and March through the first week of June. Because of the open skies and the end of the monsoon season, autumn is the ideal season. During the season, the location is lush with foliage and offers far vistas. Spring, on the other hand, brings fresh leaves, blossoming rhododendron woods, and snowy summits. As a result, the two seasons are suitable for trekking in the Gosainkunda region.

Weather in Gosainkunda

The weather in the Gosainkunda area is usually unpredictably variable, changing multiple times throughout the day. It’s muggy and chilly outside. The frigid air makes you feel cold despite the enticing sun blazing above you. Warm clothing, hiking boots, sunglasses, walking sticks, gloves, raincoats, medications, reusable water bottles, and light snacks should all be carried.

Permits & Entrance

There are two sorts of permits required for trekking in the Gosaikunda region. A Langtang National Park entry permit may be obtained at the Langtang National Park checking desk, which is located only a few hundred meters before Dhunche. The permit costs $30 and includes a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card from Kathmandu’s Trekking Agencies Association (TAAN). We handle all of the necessary paperwork and permissions prior to the trek’s departure.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek - Accommodation
